I have recently Upgraded my System. I got a new Cpu E8600 3.33Ghz, New MB Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2l, Bios R8 & 3Gb of Kingston Pc2-5300 Ram (A 2Gb & 1Gb), Evga 9800 Gt VidCard, 500Gb Sata/3Gb Hd,p Fresh install of Windows Xp home /w SP3.
Prob is i have noticed it freezing up at odd points (on desktop, opening a program, when playing a game) i have talked to a few ppl and thay have suggested that it's my ram causing the prob. (Dule Channel) wanted to find out if anyone else has had probs like this when running 2 ram cips that are same brand but diffrent size..

Hi Aurous. Welcome to H-kon.net I am very familiar with the board you are using (got two) It sounds to me that it could be heat related. The stock heatsink and fan can be tricky to install correctly. What kind of temperatures do you see? Use this program: http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/ It shouldn't be a problem using that memory, although you will get better performance going up to PC6400 (800Mhz)

Currently Temp is running at about 43-46c and is vary Steady. As for the 6400 yeah i was under impression i bought the 800Mhx mem but found out yesterday it was the 667 :/. talk about not being too happy.i'm going to see if i can take the 667 Mem back and upgrade it too 800 (If i do that i might just get 2 2Gb 800 Modules)

Is this idle temps, or during load?
Sounds a bit on the high side if it's idle. Check if the heatsink is properly mounted. Those stock heatsinks can be hard to get right.

Thats the Temp it's at when Idle. I went out and got another 1Gb Simm card and same thing. when i take it out i have no real porbs so i think i'll just have to run with 2Gb untill i go upto the 4Gb 800

Could be a general bad stick of memory, although i think the temps are a bit on the high side. My E8400 running at 3,6 is never higher than 55C and it has been running at that speed since February 2008. Have you tried memtest+ ? www.memtest.org You can download and burn a pre-made ISO file and let it test the memory for you. You should let it run for at least 6 hours to be sure though.

Well Finnaly Figured out the Random Locking Issue. Turns out is was a Background Program HP installed with it's Printer Drivers that was conflicting and causing all kinds of probs.
Now i have a new 1 well actually i guess it's a old 1 due to it's bee going on since i got the MB. I am using a Nvidia 9800 GT Vid Card and have it installed in the PCI-E 16 Slot. Prob is when I Chk the card it's reporting that it's running at PCI-E x1 ... how the heck can i get it to go up too x16 so i can actually use all my bandwidth that my card is suppose to be able to use???

Glad you got it sorted out What program do you check this with? I think it's a BIOS setting where you change the speed. What drivers do you use?

Ok Says i have a PCI-E x16@x1 Bandwith is 60.8GB/s Bus width is 256 Bit
So yup looks like my PCI-E is Stuck at x1 instead of x16. Sigh why can't this darn thing sense a x16 vid card and auto config itself...
Also SLI Disabled

Lots of people seem to be experiencing this.
You can try this in the BIOS as it has worked for some:
In the .M.I.T (Motherboard Intelligent Tweaker), try changing the PCI Express frequency from AUTO to 100, 101, 102, 103, 104, 105, 106 -->110.
Do not go past 110 though.
Also, change the "Robust Graphics Booster" from AUTO to something else.
You never mentioned what kind of power supply you got. The issue that you are experiencing has been described as follows summarized:
The new 9xxx series (G92) from Nvidia has a different timing issue than other graphics cards, so that when the power supply fires up and sends current down the line, it backs off waiting for the computer to boot. The graphics card then thinks that it doesn't have enough current and downclocks itself to avoid any damage.

Hmm.
Did you try changing the options that i posted about above? If those doesn't work, it might be time to RMA the motherboard.

OK finnaly got a Reply to my Survice Question from Gigabyte about this PCI-E prob.
Turns out this so called new MB uses a PCI-E 1.0 Slot!! So that means it don't like Ver. 2.0 Vid Cards and will not run them at X16!! So looks like i lost some $$$ buying this MB and now i'll need to go out and pick up a Decent MB (thinking about a Asus P5N-E SLI) Sigh......

Aww. thats really I went through the manual several times and it never said this. Weird. Gigabyte has had several problems lately. They seem to become the Abit of today. Get back to us when you get your new board. You can always ebay the old one

(Lockups usually happen after system has been turned off for abit)

What drivers do you use now? Have you experienced any more lockups since you downgraded? Bought a new board yet? I am not sure if 1x vs 16x is noticable other than in benchmarks, but it would be good to know
