Brr. can't wait for spring to arrive. We've had perhaps 4 days since mid December where temps have been warmer than -15C. We've had days where temps have risen to about -10C or so during the day and have falled to about -22 to -28 during the evening. Today was fun. I woke up to -19 Celsius at 8 AM. Two hours later, the temp was about +5 with the sun shining on it, and now it's back to -20 again.
We're seeing ice breakers patrolling the Oslo fjord so that the ferrys can get from Norway to Denmark. Island communities are isolated and are receiving helicopter shipments of food.  You can almost walk from Denmark to Finland on the ice these days.
--
One car died on us Dec 19th and it took 7 weeks for it to get repaired. Reason: Plugs, dynamos and parts for diesel cars have been out of stock in all of Europe due to the cold weather where hundreds of people have died.  Our dealer fixed most of it on warranty, but i had to get a new battery. Cost: 2500 NOK or around 500,- canadian or australian dollars, thats excluding the tow truck and costs related to that.

For the 7 years that we've lived here, we have used perhaps 1000 litres of wood (full cage) for an entire winter. Now we've almost burnt two full cages and its still two months left of winter. Our power bill is hmm.

Our other car that didn't die is having exhaust problems due to the cold so it's been running on emergency program for a few days now, meaning that it just has 10% of the available power to it which makes it an interesting drive to say the least.   We're driving it over to Sweden this weekend to get them both fixed and serviced. We're selling them both this spring since we really need a larger vehicle.

Diesel cars have the fun little thing about them where the fuel itself is starting to crystalize at about -22 Celsius. When almost every day is like that, starting them up is not the greatest thing you do when you don't have a garage.  It sounds like one is killing them when you fire them up.
The car that did die hasn't been washed since the week before it died either. It's simply too cold.

Our house is mostly warm, but the popping sound our house makes in the cold doesn't sound too good. It's probably just the outer panel adjusting, but still it sounds like someone is throwing a rock at our walls.

Nathalie is done fine though by the way. She has grown 4 centimeters and has gained 1 kilo so far.  She hasn't been out much due to the cold, but we do try to take her out for a stroll when the temp is not too "omg, i am going to die" cold.

I am really looking forward to spring and summer. I just hope we get more sun than the weekend we got last year, and thats not an overstatement either. We just had one good weekend with sun and warm temps last year. sigh.

Brrr, it's cold over there. Here it's has been around 20C - 30C during most of the summer.

$500 for a battery???? Do batteries for diesel car cost more than unleaded cars?

We hired a car for 2 weeks when our car was been repaired last year. It was good for a day then it ran on about 50% power. The hire company said it was ok and keep driving it.

diiesel batteries are a bit more expensive than batteries for petrol cars as diesel engines require more power to fire up. nxt car will problaby be petrol hehe

We're still more or less in the deep freeze here. We've had a week of some sunshine, but temps drop to the mid twenties at night. Our power bill is not looking good either. We used 5500 kwh in just two months. . We have also burnt 2000 litres of firewood as well.

I am really looking forward to summer.

Sorry for the lacking updates here. Our other car broke down (particle filter broken) , the first one broke down yet (same problem) again so i am spending the little time i have trying to replace them both as soon as possible as they are becoming cash drains.
We might move as well to a better house just up the street, i will find out more tomorrow as the house isn't on the market just yet.

We have had a really good winter here. not too much snow and not too cold. the snow is going very fast as we are getting lots of sunshine nearly every day.  very easy on the fuel this winter.

good luck with the cars. our "second" van has been a pain lately. thank goodness mine is fine. Roll Eyes

good luck also with the new house. Hope you get it.

I am really hoping to have some good news in a few days, re the sale of this place.

One step closer of replacing one of our cars. Just signed the papers on a 2004 Mazdaspeed 6 stationwagon with 54K km's on it for $27.000 CAD

Yeah. cars are expensive here.

I hope they take ours as a trade-in though as it's a bit of a hazzle to do it myself. The salesman thought it would be an easy sale for him if he took it, so i am hoping for an offer for $22.5K which means the loan will only last until the summer when our tax returns comes Smiley

I am picking the car up on Wednesday evening. Just hope i don't have three of them standing here.

Good luck with the car, hope it all works out, but Wow! you are correct
it is very expensive.

We paid $14.000.00 for my 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. It had 39k km's and in very good condition.

In my post of yesterday, I said "thank goodness my van is fine". Just as I was
posting, M. came back from the pond. He had taken a load of things over in my van.
Long story short, lots of ice and snow over there. I now have a crunched left front
bumper.    censored
ce la vie, I guess.........I will let him live.  Smiley

Good luck with the car. Smiley

I haven't brought a car for 5 years. They are both running well.

I am picking the car up on Wednesday evening. Just hope i don't have three of them standing here.
Once I owned 3 cars and I was single at the time. First car wasn't going and the part to fix it was very rare to get. Second car was a $800au bomb to replace the first car. Third car was a gift from a friend 1 month later.

No luck on the trade-in. The offer was not even near what i hoped so i am selling it privately in the hopes that someone will offer something near what i hoped. The figure i hope for is still one of the lowest for that kind so i am crossing my fingers.

Clifton - Hope that bumped fender wont be an expensive job :-/  Is it anything the insurance can take care of?

Elf - What kind of cars do you own? Smiley I am kind of tired fixing my cars all the time hehe.

We probably will not have it fixed through the Insurance as it would mean yet another
hike in the premium.
It is very low down and not really an eye sore, only to the owner. Haha
Nothing missing or hanging off, just a many fingered break. The dang thing is plastic
so I am sure it did not take much to break it.  Roll Eyes

Good luck with the sale H-kon. Hope you get somewhere close to what you are asking.

I have a 1998 Nissan Pulsar and my wife has a 1995 Toyota Corolla.
