A little update
« on: September 09, 2010, 04:42:33 PM »
I am in the progress of updating the forum. Soon, i'll have plenty of time to do that while trying to get some content back in here.

The last game of the spring competition will start Oct 1st - Just need to find a game first.

We'll start the Winter edition in November so that we can finish the series before christmas so that the gift may arrive in time for christmas dinner.

Yet again i lost my job due to downsizing, so starting Oct 2nd, i'll be a stay at home dad for some time ahead. The company is closing for good, so it's everyone, not just me.

I have started a new Norwegian support forum for our customers who needs help with their computers which you can find at www.h-kon.net/abc and while there, you can also take a look at the new update that i am also going to implement here.

I have removed guest access to all the forums since there are a lot of DOS attacks here for some reason. I am getting a lot of MySQL errors so i am trying to remove these errors by doing that. If no change is observed, i'll remove the limiter of course.

There are a lot of pictures that i am going to post as well of Nathalie and other things so that you can see that i haven't been slacking  :D :D

I miss you guys!

Oh just in case you wonder, that other forum i made isn't something thats going to replace this one, by far. It's just something temporary for those who really need it. I doubt anyone even registers, but that remains to be seen.

The local newspaper is coming to interview me tomorrow morning, so who knows. Maybe i'll put this little site on the news :)

The newspaper didn't include this site at the moment, but i was told they are going to after October 2nd, but that remains to be seen :) If they do, i'll try to scan and post it :)

I haven't got very far on my plans since i am working when the banks etc are open, but at least i am getting a fair amount of support from our customers.

If i can nail the premises there down, i think everything else will sort itself pretty quickly :) and thats what i am going to try to do this week.
I also got a call from a different business about 30 minutes from where i work now and they want me to run their business, either as an owner or as their employee. I am going there Wednesday evening to talk to the current owner some more :)

Lots of things happening these days. My last day is on Saturday and with bank meetings, other job offers etc there is a whole lot on my plate.
A good thing is that i am taking the next week off. We're taking a little trip to Sweden again and will be back on Tuesday.

I am postponing the competition to mid next week as i am flying between things here.

As for work, i got 4 options:

1 - Start my own business from scratch - Not a painless operation, but the local bank is positive about it. Expenses pr month looks to be about 9K CAD/AUD a month including my own salary, while expected business is about 600K CAD/AUD a year. The rent is extremely cheap, only 700 CAD a month including heat for just short of 100 square meters "downtown" (if you blink while driving, you'¨ll miss downtown)
Negative: I need to finance the starting costs. I need to sell one car asap and use the money to start the business. I wont have any income until money starts to roll in, and since Jette is on an unpaid leave until December, we won't have much of a buffer. Could be a bit risky, but i will only cut my finger, not chop my head off if everything goes bad.

2  - Offer from a local company to expand their business into what i am doing. I run the shop alone, they pay all expenses and make me an employee.  Details aren't there yet since i just got a word of mouth offer a few hours ago.
Negative: I won't take much part in the profit if the shop goes well, but i'll get a good paycheck starting nov 1st. I won't though pay a dime if the shop doesn't work. A minimum is that the shop has to balance for the doors to stay open. The safe option.

3 - I got an offer to buy a different shop 10km from where i live. The potential is about the same, a bit larger town and financing is already approved from the bank the business use. All i got to do is to say yes.
Negative: Triple the expense on the premises, but lots of regular customers. Expected income about the same - Premises located in a more populated area, but not exactly where one would prefer to go to to buy stuff.

4 - Apply for unenployment which gets me 66% of my current paycheck, start a service company from home on the side and drive around and fix other peoples computers when i feel like it.

Hmm. What to do? :)

So redecoration of the shop is taking place so i am working 9AM to 10 pm shifts these days with painting, counting the remaining goods, well mostly everything since my old boss is barely sticking his head inside the shop to get rid of the old stuff laying around.

The painting should be ready today, then we'll put a new floor down tomorrow and we should almost be good to go.  The past month has been insane phew.

Beer me up!

Thanks :) Yeah the hours are pretty tough these days but i hope to finish the store by weekend.

Got telephone and internet there yesterday evening. The painting is just about done, so there is really just the floor and the building of a cash register area thats left of the big stuff.
I am lucky to get help from family as well so it's not like i am doing this all alone, thank god - :D

What a week. First a 83 hour week, then just before work today saturday, i got a call from my sister that my mom had died this morning.

She had been in the hospital for two weeks after we found her in her bathroom in her home, so yesterday at around 15:00 she was released by the doctors. She was picked up by my sister who lives 5 minutes walking distance from here. They had a great evening, just talking, taking a Baileys and just relaxing until 4 AM. At 9:30 today, Saturday she was found in the bathroom yet again but this time it was too late. She was 66 years old.  We're starting the funeral arrangements on Monday morning.

It just never ends does it?   :gaaah:

H-Kon,
I am so very sorry to hear your sad news.
My family and I are sending love and condolences to you and your family.
Will be thinking of you.

I had a death in my family also today, at 7:30 a.m. Nfld. time.
A very dear Uncle passed away. (in Clifton)

You are right, sometimes it feels like "it never ends".

Thank you so much Elf

Lots of things surrounding my moms death is eating up my day. This really wasn't the autumn/early winter that i had planned.  The funeral is on Wednesday at 12:00.

I am swamped with e-mail too, so if any of you sent me something, it will take a moment to reply.
