The "S" word is back
« on: October 23, 2010, 01:07:18 AM »
As I opened the shop door last night  to go over to the trailer, I was met by
a very heavy blanket of snow  :gaaah: covering everything. Actually, it was very pretty.
The flakes were gigantic and were falling very slowly. This is what I call "Christmas
Eve" snow as it often is like that on C/E.
It continued for a few hours and this morning early we had about 2" covering the ground.
I bundled up in Skidoo boots and jacket and went outside to get some shots. Well, you will
just have to take my word that I could have gotten some really nice ones except....my camera went
south again. I think this time for good. drats!!! :fume:
Tonight it is calling for 7c and 15 tomorrow. I guess it's that time of year that anything goes, or comes. lol

The snow hasn't reached us yet in any quantity, but we've had -11 C already with an average of about -5 in the past week.

I think we're going to witness a really "fimbul" winter this time around.  I bought double of what i normally buy of firewood and i have reserved another two 1000 litre cages of more firewood in case i need it.

Brr. here comes winter and we really havne't had a summer either :(

-11C! we don't temps that low and we don't get snow at sea level. I think in recent years we got snow down to 400 meters.

-11c is nothing :D Last winter, the average temp was -22c with a record -36c.

It was -33c when our daughter got home. I barely managed to keep the car warm hehe.

The again, we just experienced a record +24c this summer :(

We are not as close to a polar region than Norway. :) If I drive up one of our mountains we may get to around -15c.

+24c is nothing :D When we get to +40c, that is hot.

If it hadn't been for the gulf stream, this place would be under several hundred meters of ice hehe.  I hate the cold weather too and would love to have a decent summer for once. This year topped out at 24c. We have seen temps up to mid thirties, but the humidity kills any outdoor activity.

Is Tasmania much colder than the mainland, or is it more of the same? :) I know just about nothing about Tasmania - Elf how about a crash course?:D

I'd love to go there :)

Tasmanian weather is cooler than the mainland as we are closer to the south pole. The +40c temperature is close to our record of +41.5c. Usually during the summer we get in between +25c - +35c.

What else do you want to know?

Not sure since i don't know anything hehe :D  If i went there, what should i go see? :)

Temps are hovering around 0C here, they do say that air from the pole is coming south from tomorrow so we might see record low temps for November (-30 to -35c) even here where i live (down south)

That's bloddy cold. brrrrr... good thing you stocked up on extra fire wood eh?
Winter is in the air here but nothing like that. Last week was not bad but brisk. The two weeks before that was heavenly. We has what we call "Indian Summer". The daytime temps were 8-13c.....beautiful  and some nights
had a little frost.
Stay warm, sounds like you all will need some "hot toddies". (Hot rum drinks)

hehe. We're already using quite a bit of firewood. I really hope it's not going to get that cold. The last stint we had with such low temps, we took turns in keeping the fireplace up and burning.

We'll see. The forecasters have been wrong all year, so i will be surprised if we get half the temps.

It's -17 here this morning.  This is late January weather. Hot Toddy weather for sure.
There have been record amounts of snowfall all around us
but we have been very lucky and probably have a foot or so. we have had the snow blower out twice so far.
This photo was taken a few days ago.

We really don't have any snow at all here. Just cold weather. Only -11 here right now which strangely feels warm for some reason. hehe.

Winter comes to "The Pond"

it is actually warming up quite a bit compared to the past week.
It has been colder than a tin toilet seat on the shady side of an iceberg.  :gaaah:

I shouldn't have brought up snow really. It's been snowing a lot in the past few days, so now we got about 30 cm of the stuff. Temps are just -3c today.

About 15cm more is expected today

I am working today until 6 pm and also tomorrow until 6 pm so i wonder when i'll have the time to clear my drivein hehe.
