Solid State Drives (SSD)
« on: November 21, 2010, 09:42:35 PM »
I recently sold a computer and got myself a nice 120GB SSD disk of the Corsair Force series.

Just done with the installation so got a fresh installation of Windows 7 now.

I think my motherboard could be out of date though as i couldn't even find the AHCI option in my BIOS:

My main system is an Intel Q9400 Quad running at stock speed (2,66GHz), 8GB of DDR-II 800Mhz and this disk.
Graphics is a Radeon HD5770 1GB version.

Not sure if that number (disk performance) is where it should be though, but i do notice that it's a little bit faster, just not the "WOW" i was expecting.

Motherboard too old perhaps?

Just need to sell a few more computer before i can afford an upgrade.

Hmm.. I have a corsair SSD for my main disk. Not sure if it's corsair force or not, but I can check :) I noticed a huge improvement to boot time when I changed it. From windows loading screen appears, till firefox is up and ready takes 12 seconds. Total time from cold boot is 23 seconds.

Have you tried any benchmarks yet? Like HDTune or the like?

Benches are a bit low, but ok. I am leaning towards that the motherboard is too old/too simple for this SSD since the wow factor isn't quite there.  It's an MSI G31 socket 775 motherboard.  I do have a newer board in a different computer, a P43 based one but i am not sure if it is any better.

I am probably doing an upgrade after we move and sell our current house if i can afford it.
