Busy day on the pond
« on: April 19, 2011, 03:16:02 AM »
WOW!!!! What great activity on the pond/property, today!
Early morning there were 13 wild Turkeys across the road in the farmer's field
and 3 on the bank of the pond..

Shortly after, a pair of Wood Ducks arrived. here is a picture of the male..

This afternoon, a beautiful pair of Canada geese arrived and stayed for nearly an hour..

shortly after the geese arrived, a pair of Male Hooded Meganzars and a female arrived.
The males were each trying to scare off the other and so gave us quite a show.

What a great unexpected treat. Made my whole week.  :)  :dancing:

I am really hoping that at least one pair will make a nest and stay awhile.  :dancing:

Well, the ducks and geese visited very often through early summer then
went elsewhere. Except for one lone duck that arrived mid summer and stayed until early fall.
always arriving alone and at dusk and leaving at dawn. I was not able to have enough light to identify it.
It has been many weeks since we have seen a snapping turtle.
The Great Blue Herons visited from time to time up until a couple of weeks ago. also the King fishers.
Except for the Gold Fish jumping at times, there is no action at the pond at present. We now eagerly await
the spring migration. The bird feeders are up and ready for the birds that stay all winter.

Please note... I did not take the photos above. I could not get this close without scaring them off.
These photos are compliments of Google.

More new visitors to the pond....

A few weeks ago we had a fox come through the yard, twice that we saw.

Last friday as we were enjoying our supper, a beautiful male pheasant strolled
along in front of the house..... beautiful.

I am still wating for the ducks and Canada geese to come back.

That is a pretty bird :-)  I have never seen such things before. I live in the woods, but no birds like that are to be seen :-)

Yes, we are very fortunate to have all these wonderful creatures visit our property. There are actually many other birds here and a few other animals, but I would bore everyone to death if I posted a photo of them all.  :)
Spring/early summer is especially busy.
