As i wrote in Elf's laptop thread, i am posting from a computer that should have been recycled a long time ago, so i thought i would give you the history.

It's an older HP something, i can't really make out what model it is since the covers are gone.  It sported a T3100 Celeron, 1GB memory, and integrated graphics when i got it. The disk was 250gb i think, so it may be a 2006 model i think, but here is what is wrong with it:

Lets see, knife carvings on palmrests and LCD screen = check
Constant overheating = check
Missing most of the screws that originally held it together = check
faulty audio = check, that means, broken to bits by using a sharp pointy object.
Missing covers for ram, disk etc underneath = check

A customer of mine wanted this machine fixed about a year ago as it was completely dead, so i went to work and found out that the disk drive did something funny to it electrically and it was completely unreadable. I patched it together as best as i could and asked if she wanted me to replace the disk, but she told me no, she already went out and bought a new computer since she really wanted a new one, so she told me that i could do whatever i wanted with it.  So i took it home.

So, a few weeks later, i got myself a cheap disk for it and installed windows on it and it has worked without any issues since then. I recently also upgraded the processor from a T3100 Celeron to a T7500 core 2 duo which is much cooler and quite a bit faster (5,4 on the windows experience list for cpu, 3,3 total) so it doesnt overheat as often now.

Recently, before the upgrade, it started doing funny things, so i am guessing it wont last long. No worries, i got 6 older desktop computers in my basement and two laptops that i haven't started working on yet, but it's funny to see that something that people wouldn't even touch with a ten foot pole can become useful :)

So, do you have anything that should have been thrown but you find it hard to do so?

I still have a Pentium 233 MMX desktop that isn't worth anything. When it was my current computer, the only upgrade I have done to it was upgrade the ram from 32mb to 64mb. I also have 5 desktops ranging from Athlon 900mhz to Pentium 4 2.4ghz that haven't started working on yet.

I have cleared out most of the old stuff now so now i only got one desktop left that i am keeping for a little while. I haven't fired it up since February last year, but there are some stuff on it that i need to backup before i take it apart.

My laptop is getting worse everyday so i have started to look around for a cheap replacement that will happen around easter i think.

Still got parts if you need them Elf :-) I am out of DDR 1 SO-DIMM memory and wifi-cards but got mainboards and cpu's around :-)

I haven't cleared out any parts since last time I posted in here.   :whistling:

I would still like parts if you could send them. If you have any memory that is 512mb or more that will fit into a desktop mainboard that would be good. :)

If you need anything for the parts let me know.
