3rd storm in a week. brr.
« on: December 01, 2011, 08:49:55 AM »
Yes, another weather thread :-D

Our third storm in a week is having fun outside as we speak. The third one with hurricane force winds. We've lost power a couple of times and some branches and trees are being removed from the roads, but it's mostly business as usual here.  South-Eastern Norway, around the Oslo area isn't used to getting storms at all so the roots on the trees are pretty shallow.  I just read that ships in the Norwegian sea experienced 28 meter waves on average, some were even taller. I'd crap myself in that kind of conditions.

No snow yet which is a first for as long as i can remember. It's 7c outside at 8 am  and i can't see any snow in the next 14 day forecast either.

My power bill is happy though :)

wOW! That's some serious winds. we have not had high winds here but western Canada
is a different story. There's been some serious storms out there.
We have had snow three times here, the latest yesterday and it is still on the ground.
it is -1 at the moment, at 6:20 a.m. going up to +4 today.

Here is a photo taken on the south end of our road, on 11/11/11  This portion of the road is not
maintained in winter, so is used as part of a soowmobile trail. It's always a beautiful walk down there,
at any time of year.

This was taken yesterday, very early a.m. in my flower bed.

Elf, enjoy your summer, as the rest of us prepare to go into deep freeze.  :)

Nice photos Clifton. :)

We did have a storm one night last week, which is a bit unusual this time of year.

Summer? What is this strange Word you speak of?
Must be here. :) We are meant to have temps in the early 20'sc all this week.

We've had 4 more storms this past week (Cato and Dagmar were the two big ones) . Part of the roof on my garage was blown off in the christmas storm on the 26th . Winds were measured to 189 km/t on the west coast, not that much over here, but speeds picked up to just below hurricane levels intermittently.

15K people are still without power a bit further north, mine has come and gone these past few days. Cell phone was gone until yesterday evening. There are trees and cables everywhere.  At one time, the only road that was not blocked around here was the main road between our main airport and downtown Oslo.

It's calm now, so i guess it's time to see if i can fix the garage  :-)

Holy crap!!!  Glad you are o.k. Glad your Home was not damaged.

We did not hear about your storms, just bad things in general (weather wise) happening
world wide.

We had quite a mild December. Only had a little ground cover of snow for Christmas.
we have had a few inches in the past two days and it has turned colder. Was -10 early
this morning. The wind has picked up now, so probably not be walking this a.m.

Good luck over there and I hope you have some decent weather soon. Stay warm.

Glad you and your house is ok. We didn't hear about your storms.

Darwin (a city on the other side of Australia) was getting ready for a cyclone on 26th Dec. It reached then on that day but was week and no significant damage was recorded. There was lots of local flooding and Darwin was cut off for a few hours.

The weather here is warning up to high 20's and fine days. Thinking of putting the swimming up.
