Almost done with getting things back up now.

What i will do is to post a new topic to every clip with a poll. You can then rate the clip and comment on it or tell me to junk it :)

Hope you like it :)

Well, i haven't forgotten this forum :) Just been a very busy few weeks with a lot of private stuff happening. Deaths, tearing down everything outside so that we can get the house fixed before the frost in the ground is solid and many more things.

So, tonight i will probably get some time to start again and the main focus i have is "all_alone" which i am trying to get some text on and add some vocals etc. (h-kon - singing? nah)

If there is a specific clip you want me to work on, let me know :)

Hello H-Kon,  hopefully things are calming down for you.
So sorry for your loss.

By all means, go for the vocals.

Thanks for your kind words clifton.

It's getting there, although slowly :)  I have gotten as far as recording the main song and i have started to add bass.

One of these days i will have to write a long post about the past 6 months which has been hell.

One of these days isn't yet, but soon.

I spent quite a bit of time on working on "All_Alone" yesterday and it is looking pretty good. I need to up the tempo a bit before i put it online.  A decent download system is also being worked on for the site instead of just dumping a clip inside a post.

At the same time, i am looking for ways to use Windows instead of BeOS for my recordings but i haven't gotten that far yet. I have no idea about recording software for Windows.

I am also setting up a "H-kon.net Radio Station" where i will put the clips that i am recording on, unfinished etc so that you can hear the progress.  This last bit should not take long :)

I am keeping this thread as a perpetual status thread.

Gah. I am starting to hate this. I am at a point that i just want to give up. Just as soon as i was getting everything working, my sound is crapping out on my BeOS box.
There aren't many soundcards that are supported, so the SBLive Value card thats stuck in there needs to be replaced. I might score one next week though, so we will see how that turns out. I thought i had a replacement, but it seems to be defect too. Gah!

I am trying to learn some more keyboard while recording options are not available and i think there are some cool things that can be done. Its a new thing for me as i have only used bass and guitar before.
I feel quite bad about this whole situation since i have promised so much and delivered so little. I think i really need to research a Windows alternative soon since its getting hard to find outdated hardware for my BeOS box.  :-\

The radio station of course fails when there is no soundcard working.. gah!

I am pushing the download section to a new revision to the site as all this site is a forum, where a download section needs some other functions to be working nicely.

A little status update might be in order

I am currently trying to setup a Mac OS X box on my PC to replace the BeOS box for audio. Garageband might be what i am looking for.

This seems to be the cheapest option for me in the short term. There are some popping sounds on the last two clips that i have posted that seem SB live related that people have pointed out to me so there wont be new clips until i can sort that out.

I am also researching Windows alternatives that can run on Vista. tips are always welcome. They need to be easy to use, while powerful enough to get a good sound.

This is what happens when you're on a skeleton budget  :'(

Over a year since i posted in this thread. whew.

My music isn't a forgotten hobby. I am just trying to find a better recording system so that you can get more finished and better sounding songs. I have come to realize that my BeOS setup just doesn't cut it anymore. I am looking into alternatives. I am a complete newbie when it comes to recording options, so when i look at and test the software, i feel like a complete retard.

I am in the process of getting rid of most of my computers and will invest in audio instead :)

On the list is a BOSS RC-2XL Loopstation pedal that will enable me to play more or less as a band. I hope to buy it this Saturday if i can find it for the right price nearby :)

Then, i am going to buy a decent soundcard for my Windows PC as it is struggling with latency now (playing the guitar takes a second before i hear it on the computer which makes it hard to play).

There is music coming alright. Lots of it :)

I'll still use my BeOS box and put the different instruments where i want it to be heard, but after the recording phase.  3dMixer can't be found anywhere else.

A bit late on getting the gear.

I hope to pick up some new equipment today. Hopefully a Fender amp and a RC20XL multipedal :)

Two computers sold, 1 to go :)

Hmm. i am having some problems actually going to a store to see the stuff that i am planning on buying as the opening hours at those stores are the same as the ones that i am working :-/  I am going to try to get a couple of hours off work this week so that i can go check these things out, unless either of my selections are safe buys.

I got my eyes on a Fender G-DEC 30 amp which looks to be a classic Fender amp coupled with the RC20XL into one.  I have no idea if it is any good either.  My biggest fear is getting an amp that can't handle the lower tones (bass) (Run Like Hell)

A cheaper, but more powerful Fender 212 2x12" speakers with 100W is also an alternative.

Elf - Since you play Bass, you perhaps have some knowledge of recent equipment?

I thought Elf played bass. Oh. sorry  :tomato: :tomato: hehe. i got you mixed up with someone else.

I walked into two of our local guitar shops, and neither had anything worth checking out. One had 3 dusty small 20W Fender amplifiers tucked away in a corner, and the second one had none so i still haven't bought anything.

I got a little lesson from a customer about recording. Seems i do it all wrong hehe (no surprise). He told me to use a good microphone (vocal) in front of a decent amplifier to record with since i'll also record the ambient sounds around which makes the quality a lot better, so i am going to try this very soon.

Got a couple of new clips in my head that i am going to do something with, and i'll post them here so that you can vote :)

I have actually spent three hours on my guitar today. The sound according to Jette is much better, but not yet crystal clear.  I ripped my entire office apart yesterday and rearranged everything so that i get my computing and guitar stuff seperated.

I am not sure what i lack yet, but it could be a decent soundcard. Not sure. Got an old AWE64 around that was the thing to own back in 1998, so we'll see how that turns out.

You do get a lot of environment included, too much it seems as i get some serious cases of feedback in the recordings. Once i get settled up completely, i think there is going to be some nice tunes coming here.

My old 1970's Ibanex GX60 amplifier is sounding great now, so i am not sure i am going to even buy an amp :)

Still at work at this song. Been playing every night now to finish it. Have some quality issues (hissing)  which is why i haven't posted it yet as i want to make it right the first time so that i don't get any v2.0's etc. Quality has improved a lot, but it's not there yet. Hopefully, i'll get it right tonight :)

Comp guitar, solo guitar, keyboard is what i am using :)

Might also post a new version of "Troubled Times".

If anyone knows anything about hardware drummachines, let me know. I NEED one :)

We're heading for the island of Crete outside of Greece next Thursday for a week of sunshine, and my goal is to post something before we leave.
I'll have a week off after that at as well and will be getting some new equipment too.  My ultimate goal is to have 6-7 songs ready for an "album" release before Christmas which will be my christmas present to you.

Not quite there yet on the piece (as usual sigh) but i think i just had a breakthrough at 1 AM here on the soundquality. I have been doing some takes and i really can't hear any crackling or popping or hissing. I might have some crappy headphones ($19.99 from Walmart in 1998) , but i might have found the cure.  Will buy a good set when i get home next week :)

Got the basics down on the new track called "Run Like Hell".  I got half the "solo" too, just need some keyboard before i can post it.  I think i have had about 50 recordings in the last week alone on this song, so i am at least trying to get somewhere.
Also got a more refined version of Troubled Times almost finished - About 20 recordings there so far

I have also started on two other songs, my two new first in ages, Got about 10 total recordings for both of them.
Edit: total disk space used on all recordings. 800 Megabytes spread out in about 90 wav files.  wow. need to clean that up hehe.

The great plan i have for all is that i am going to knit them all together eventually in a continuous song  (The last Sunset, Troubled Times, Run Like Hell + 2 new ) which has been the plan for about 15 years now.

To buy list next week:
M-Audio soundcard (transition to Windows)
Good headphones (???)
- Multieffect pedal, or a Korg x50 synthesizer. You choose :)
