Got a computer that i am quite stumped over.  It's an E2180@ 2,0 Ghz, Asus P5ND2 SE motherboard, 2GB, and an old S3 PCI VGA.

I have tried pulling it apart to see if it made a difference, but it does not. It randomly freezes at odd points, from viewing folder options, to inserting the LAN cable.

Anyone experienced anything like this before?

CPU temps shows around 30C/84F so i am quite certain it isn't heat related. It has a gargantuan pound'ish HSF combo installed

I am stumped  ???

The P5ND2 SE motherboard needs bios ver 0702 to run a E2180 cpu.

It may be worth while to test ram with Memtest86+

It is best to leave it running overnight or until you get a error.

Thanks Smiley  I finally fixed it.

I updated the BIOS to 0802 where the correct naming is shown during post, but it did not make much difference. I then removed every bit and started it outside the case to see if there was contact between the case and the motherboard.

No dice.

Removed every bit, tried different memory etc and ran memtest+, same thing although it took a bit longer for it to freeze.

I was almost ready to get a new board when i ripped my old 7800 GT from my main machine to see if it could be the VGA and bingo. That made the difference. It's been going 100% at BOINC for a day now and it hasn't froze yet.

Looks like the old VGA is going to data heaven.
Now i need to get myself a passive gpu that can play a game or two and i am in heaven.
