We're back home now. Our trip going back was pretty eventful to say the least so we did not do much yesterday except for getting a bite to eat and take a shower. It took us 25 hours to get home so we are trying to get some energy after that.
There were/are demonstrations going on in "Phuket" where we went. The whole country had grinded to a halt and the mob had blocked every local airport down there, including ours. Our flight was scheduled for 16:20 local time and the airport closed at 16:00 due to the demonstrations.
We had to carry our bags the last 1000 yards/meters as the road was blocked by the protesters. They want their current prime minister outted. I talked to some of them while walking towards the airport, and it was weird as they all said they were very sorry about the events going on stressing that they love their tourists and stressing a lot of times that under no circumstances would any tourists be unsafe. They even helped carry our luggage towards the airport. When we finally got there, the entrance was also blocked so the military helped us climb the fence by having us climb them personally and helping us and the luggage over the big pointy fence.
The airport officials then hurried us on the plane. I think the boarding time took us 5 minutes at the most. Taxing out, the captain of the plane stopped on the runway and informed us that the protesters demanded that we return to the terminal, or else we'll wreak havoc on the airport. The captain then declared emergency and bolted from the airport. He is probably getting a medal for that last i heard. So we were the last people out of Phuket Aiport. Had we originally booked the 20:00 flight out as planned, we would still have been there.
Later we found out that since we left, the protesters had broken into the airport and camped the runway and destroying one of the terminals inside the airport (domestic terminal).
118 people never made it on the plane. They are still down there waiting to get home as they also blocked the way over the fence at 16:00.
Our plane home was scheduled for 01:10 in the morning so we had to wait for 7 hours in Bangkok which went by pretty fast, but the 11 hour flight to Stockholm, then two hour wait there before our 1 hour flight from Stockholm to Oslo was pretty tough though so we're pretty beat.
Here is the local news about the events:
