Thinking about Overclocking
« on: September 07, 2008, 12:52:40 AM »
So I have an Old Dell Computer I got back in 2002
with a dell Motherboard (0M075)
A Intel Pentium 4 1.6ghz Processor I'm looking to over clock my processor speed to at least 2.0ghz.(so I can play Spore and Team fortress 2)
But I don't know if my mother board can handle overclocking I hear the 1.6ghz Processor is good for Overclocking
but I also hear Dell Mobo's are bad for Overclocking.

Could someone please Clarify.

768MB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT
Intel Pentium 4 1.6ghz

Thank you.

Hi shixx :) Welcome to H-kon.net :)

Dell's do not usually offer any overclocking options on their motherboards. Take a look in the bios options and let us know what you find. It's either "F2" or "F10" to access it during power on.  It is an Dimension 4300S that you have?

The Pentium 4 could be either a "Williamette" or a "Northwood" version.

Can you download CPUID and let us know the results on that?

Where are you located by the way? (Country)

Here are the specs that i found for your computer based on 0M075

The quick answer to most major label computer manufacturers, including Dell, is no.

There is very little possibility of overclocking your computer, due to the motherboard's BIOS.

However, older motherboards can be found rather cheaply and the major manufacturers (like, ASUS, DFI, MSI) have used some form of overclocking on their board's BIOS.  If you really want to o/c your computer, the motherboard will have to let you do so.
