We spent another 10 days recently at our "retirement property" trying to get more
trees cleared and get the hydro to the property etc. The garage/workshop was suppose
to be finished two weeks ago but mostly due to weather conditions, it did not happen.
Hopefully it will be up and finished this coming week.

 We got the well dug and the septic tank in and tile bed finished, so we are making some
 progress. Thank goodness that "Mr Fixit" can do a lot of things himself and we have some
 help from Doc, otherwise it would be very costly $$$$$$

We are installing solar heat on the Garage roof, which my husband will also do himself. This
will heat the garage and the house. Eventually, we will also have a windmill.

I will post a few pictures as things progress and also one of the pond.

Now, if we could just sell our Business and house here, all would be great! Properties are
unfortunately, moving at a snails pace.   We cannot move or finish our house there until
we sell here.
By the way, we ran into snow and some icy roads for a couple hours on the way home. (it's a
7 hour drive from here) I really am not ready for winter.   :-\

Those pictures could have been taken over here.  The dirt seem to be drier than it is over here, but other than that it's a spitting image.

Are you guys doing everything yourself?

I am looking forward to see more pictures of the building as it goes forward

The soil is beautiful, top 8-12" is topsoil and the rest is quite sandy. Drains beautifully.

We cannot do "all" of the work ourselves, but we can do a lot. Right now, the carpenters
are framing the garage/shop (way behind schedule) and will put the steel on the roof and
the sides and then my husband will backfill. Inside, he will put insulation under the soil
before the cement floor gets done. Then my husband will install the solar heat. It looks like
winter is coming a little early, so do not know how much further we will get this year. The
biggest problem is, we are a seven hour drive from there, so cannot go back and forth at will. :-\

The soil over here has a lot of clay in it, hardened blue clay which isn't easy to work with to say the least.  We aren't completely done yet outside, but we will finalize it in spring as we're putting up a new terrace and get some new gravel while insulating the windows here. Pictures will be forthcoming.

Winter do seem to come early this year. which might have to do with
Solar Minimum that we're going through these days.

There haven't been a sunspot in over 200 days, so this winter may become harsher than normal.

I really thought our shop would have been all closed in by now, but no such luck.

This building is 32x48'. pitch on roof is 12/12
left side faces south, so the solar panels will be on that side of the roof.
house will be to the right of the shop and behind the pond.
Hopefully soon, I will have a photo of the "finished" building.

You can see on the roof, where the solar water panels will be and down the roof below that, will be the solar electrical panels.
the sides are pale grey steel and the roof is charcoal grey (looks a bit brown, depending on the light.)
our house will be 1300 sq.', this bldg. is 1500 sq.'
a large portion of this building will be taken up with two 500 gallon and one 1000 gallon holding tanks. a decent space for woodworking and also storage.

  Actually H-Kon, the shop is larger than our house as well, it is 1500 square feet and the house will be 1300 sq. feet. We cannot move to "The Pond" until we sell the business,house and property, here. 
We are hoping to start building the house this coming fall.
