Hello, I would like to add more memory to my computer, but I'm unsure what to get?
At the moment it has 2x DDR 512M DDRR 400 (1GB of RAM),

Motherboard Description :

   Chipset

• SiS® 661FX Chipset
 - Supports Intel Pentium 4 processors with data transfer rate up to 800MHz.
 - Supports 64-bit high performance DDR400/DDR333/DDR266 memory controller.
 - Supports High performance & high quality 3D Graphic Accelerator.
 - Supports AGP 8x/4x interface.

• SiS® 964 Chipset
- High Definition Audio interface
- 8 USB 2.0/1.1 ports
- 2 channel Ultra ATA66/100/133 Bus Master IDE controller
- 2 serial ATA Host controllers

Main Memory

• Supports two memory banks using two 184-pin unbuffered DDR DIMM.
• Supports up to 2GB memory size without ECC.
• Supports DDR266/333/400.

Should I get another 2 sets of 512M DDR 400 or 1 GB DDR 400?

Hi sonicboom Smiley Welcome to H-kon.net

From the descriptions listed, i would add another 1GB of DDR-400. for a total of 1,5GB. Depending on price, you should consider replacing one 512Mb stick with another 1GB stick depending on operating system and application load.

If you're running Windows Vista, 2GB total is highly recommended.

So if  I get & install 1GB DDR-400 memory stick it wont matter that the other ones are 2 512MB sticks?

so I'll have:           2x 512MB   (Plus the new 1GB RAM stick)  = 2 GB RAM?

I'm using Windows Xp.

Thanks.

Hi,

If you buy 1x 1GB DDR, you will get 1,5GB of memory since you would need to take one 512MB stick out. You seem to only have space for two sticks total - so 1x 1024 + 1x 512 = 1536MB, or 1,5GB.

Open your computer up and see if you have 3 spaces total.

From the info you provided you only have 2 slots for DDR ram. H-Kon would be right. 1x 1024 + 1x 512 = 1536MB, or 1,5GB.
2 different sizes of ram can be installed.
